Muhlenberg County, Kentucky Pays Tribute

Life-size statues of a trio of music legends with Central City roots — Don and Phil Everly and John Prine — were dedicated on Friday in the small western Kentucky community’s downtown.

John has been a vital part of the Everly Brothers Homecoming concert series in Central City since the first one was held in 1988. The series was established to assist the Muhlenberg county economy after the coal industry began to collapse. As a show of appreciation, the citizens of Central City have spent the last four years organizing, fundraising, and building Festival Square that features life-sized bronze statues as well as stone monuments with engravings of portraits, history, and lyrics. Both locals and tourists gathered for the official ceremony in which brother Billy Prine and son Jack Prine spoke. It was followed later that evening with a benefit concert showcasing John's songs.
